The American authorities showed their subsequent appreciation for his work by burning many of Dr Reich's books in 1950s. (Not unlike how the Nazis did twenty years before.) Over there, was the American call to arms and was sung in the largest cities to the tinniest hamlets throughout the country. The Yankee Doodle Dandy himself, George M. Cohan, wrote it. Caruso, who knew Cohan, loved the song. He recorded the song at the Victor studios in Camden, New Jersey in the summer of 1918.
